Here’s What We Do

We support children in coming to school and performing at their best by mobilizing the school community to provide HOME-GROWN NUTRITIOUS MEALS.

By partnering with local women’s groups, school leaders, and other local stakeholders, EACF is building the capacity of schools to provide a daily, healthy meal to all of their students.

Collaborate with local leaders

EACF meets with school leaders, formal and informal women’s groups, and other local stakeholders to learn about their specific challenges related to food security, student nutrition, and school meals. Together, we collaborate to identify the investments needed to most effectively utilize available, local land and resources for a school meal program.

Focus on ending ‘Hidden Hunger’

Micronutrient deficiencies or ‘Hidden Hunger’ are highest for children in sub-Saharan Africa. With a focus on regenerative agriculture, school communities plant micro-nutrient dense fruits and vegetables; maintain small livestock; and develop fishponds. Zero Waste: all production feeds humans, animals and the soil.

Mobilize women’s groups to cultivate nutrient-dense food

By partnering with formal and informal women’s groups surrounding local schools, EACF equips the community to cultivate a sustainable source of nutrition that schools need to keep students engaged and thriving. When there are excess crops the women are able to sell them in local markets.

Here’s How You Can Help

Your donation will enable EACF to bring home-grown, nutritious meals to more students.

In 2023, we will be expanding our impact, scaling our program to more schools in Meru County.

Making a donation today will support our efforts to strengthen school communities by nourishing children’s bodies and minds.

Stories of Transformation

“It’s after losing my beloved parents that I found myself living in the streets. Life was difficult there because we were marauding in order to get a piece of bread for the day. I came to Nchiru Children’s Village to begin school life. Many school leaders gave us words of encouragement and taught us the importance of education.”

"My name is Naserian and I come from Marsabit county in northern Kenya. Before I came to Nchiru Children’s Village, my job as a young girl was to look after my uncle’s camels. I spent my days with the camels and finding firewood for cooking. I did not eat the whole day until I returned home in the evening with the firewood and camels."
